ISO 8217 RMG 380 · 0.50% sulphur
Very low sulphur fuel oil
Since 1 January 2020, vessels operating outside emission control areas have been required to use fuel with a maximum sulphur content of 0.50%, unless fitted with an exhaust gas cleaning system. Very low sulphur fuel oil is the principal means by which the global fleet complies with this limit.
As VLSFO is a blended product, stability and compatibility are as important as compliance with the headline specification. Oil Trans tests every delivery for stability, shares the results in advance, and advises on segregation where there is a risk of incompatibility with fuel already on board.
